Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called Chisinau's decision not to accredit Russian observers from the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) politically motivated. Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) parliamentary elections in Moldova. Her comment was published on September 24 on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"The Moldovan authorities not only restrict the right of their own citizens living in Russia and Transnistria to vote, but also hinder objective monitoring of the electoral process," Zakharova said.

Zakharova stressed that the Moldovan authorities' fear of "external threats" and "interference" in the elections, widespread in the politicized information space, led to the use of anti-democratic methods.

It is also noted that Chisinau ignores the provisions of the OSCE Copenhagen Document, which provides for the obligation to invite observers from all participating states of the organization.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the same day that a significant part of the Moldovan population, which advocates good relations with the Russian Federation, was deprived of the right to vote in their country. He added that many people in Moldovan society advocate a more balanced policy towards Russia.

Zakharova also noted that Moldovans must unite against the ongoing Romanization, otherwise they will lose control of their own lives and will be forced to mimic power.
