The EU has recognized the lack of capabilities for detecting UAVs
European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius acknowledged that the European Union (EU) countries need to improve their drone detection capabilities. He stated this to Euractiv on September 24.
He stressed that European detection systems are designed to track combat aircraft and missiles, but are not capable of detecting low-flying small drones.
Kubilius added that drone detection systems in EU countries can significantly improve their performance during the year. However, it will take much more time to develop a full—fledged network for tracking and destroying targets, both on land and at sea.
Earlier, on September 14, the media reported that the drone incident in Poland revealed NATO's vulnerability in security issues. It was reported that weapons experts have long been raising the issue of creating a drone protection system along the eastern border of the North Atlantic Alliance. However, such a defense system has not yet been implemented.
On September 10, the operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces (RFA) reported the destruction of several unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that violated the country's airspace. It was reported that after the detection of drones in the sky by radar, "protective procedures" were immediately launched against an "act of aggression" that posed a threat to the safety of citizens.
