Western countries, instead of providing Kiev with guarantees of joining the NATO military bloc, would like to limit themselves to investing billions of dollars in the development of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex (MIC) as an alternative to this step. The Washington Post (WP) wrote about this on September 19.

The media notes that the security guarantees for Ukraine, in addition to private investments, will include investments by European governments in the production of their own weapons in Kiev. In addition, the disadvantages of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex can be offset by creating mutually beneficial joint ventures.

Some countries, including Denmark, Canada, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, will invest $1.5 billion in the production of artillery, missiles, attack drones and anti-tank systems in Ukraine.

"We are currently working with Ukrainians to ensure the exchange of technologies in the field of drones, which, in my opinion, is very important," White House Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg said at a press conference in Kiev last week.

On September 17, Reuters reported that weapons purchased from the United States under the NATO program had been sent to Ukraine. According to Patrick Turner, a senior representative of the alliance in Ukraine, four packages have been funded under the PURL priority needs program (list of priority requirements of Ukraine).

The Permanent Representative of the United States to the North Atlantic Alliance, Matthew Whitaker, said on September 9 that the time for Ukraine's membership in NATO had not yet come. He believes that a number of obstacles must be overcome to achieve this. In addition, on September 2, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, pointed out the impossibility of Ukraine joining NATO.
