China bans technology companies from buying Nvidia AI chips

In China, the country's largest technology companies have been banned from purchasing chips from the American company Nvidia for artificial intelligence (AI), increasing pressure on the development of the domestic industry. This was reported on September 17 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.

The Chinese Cyberspace Administration (CAC) has demanded that companies stop testing and ordering RTX Pro 6000D graphics cards designed specifically for the Chinese market, the material says.

"Everything is very clear now. Previously, people hoped for the resumption of Nvidia supplies if the geopolitical situation improved. Now all forces are thrown at creating a domestic system," the expert told the publication.

The ban goes beyond previous recommendations on the H20 chip and reflects Beijing's conclusion that Chinese AI processors have reached a level comparable to Nvidia products allowed for export.

"There is now a consensus at the highest level that the domestic supply will be sufficient to meet demand without having to buy Nvidia chips," writes FT.

According to the newspaper, this decision underscores China's strategic course towards independence in the field of AI and resisting external technological pressure.
