AvtoVAZ plans to introduce a four-day working week starting on September 29. The work schedule may last up to six months, but the five-day period may return earlier if the situation in the car market improves. This was reported on September 16 by Interfax with reference to the materials of the automaker's trade union organization.

The fact that the company switched to a four-day working week from September 29 for a period of 6 months (until March 28, 2026) was confirmed to the agency by Sergey Zaitsev, chairman of the primary trade union organization of AvtoVAZ. Officially, the Togliatti auto giant has not confirmed the reduction of the working week by one day.

Plans to reduce the work schedule were discussed at the plant-wide conference of AVTOVAZ employees following the implementation of the collective agreement in the first half of 2025, which took place last week.

Already in the first half of 2025, AvtoVAZ took measures to increase employment. In particular, we are talking about an increase in the production of spare parts, the organization of additional equipment repairs, work to improve working conditions, maintenance and landscaping, training and retraining of employees, the note says.

To maintain the income level of employees, the company's management appealed to federal and regional authorities with a request to allocate funds for temporary work, Dmitry Mikhalenko, Vice President for Personnel and Social Policy at AvtoVAZ, said in a presentation.

AvtoVAZ announced on July 22 that it was considering switching to a four-day working week. The manufacturer cited the high key rate and stricter regulatory requirements for car loan borrowers as the reasons for the difficult market situation.

Earlier, on September 1, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said that the Russian authorities were monitoring the fulfillment of social obligations at car factories that had switched to a reduced operating mode.
