- Israel intensified attacks on Gaza City before the ground operation. What the media is writing
The Israeli military launched airstrikes on high-rise buildings in Gaza City before the likely start of a ground operation to take it under control. At the same time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubil visited Israel to show support for the country after its attack on Qatar, which caused anger among Arab countries. How the conflict in the Middle East is developing is in the Izvestia digest.
CNN: Israel launched strikes on Gaza before discussing ground operation
The Israeli military has attacked several high-rise buildings in Gaza City. This is another round of destruction since Israel ordered the complete evacuation of the city. The offensive on Gaza City appears to be accelerating: on Sunday morning, the military ordered the evacuation of several high-rise buildings for several hours.

According to a source familiar with the situation, the strikes were carried out before a meeting convened by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss measures to prevent harm to hostages still being held in the Gaza Strip when the Israeli military conducts a ground operation to take control of Gaza City.
The meeting, scheduled for September 18, will be attended by the Israeli Foreign and defense ministers, as well as the leadership of the Israeli armed forces and security services. It is estimated that about 20 hostages remain alive in the enclave, some of whom may be in Gaza City. Two Israeli officials said a ground operation in the city would begin in the coming days.
Associated Press: Rubio visited Israel as a sign of support
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was in Israel on September 14 when the country's military intensified attacks on the northern Gaza Strip. Before the trip, Rubio said he would ask Israeli officials for an answer on their view on further actions in the enclave after the Israeli attack on Hamas leaders in Qatar, which nullified all efforts to resolve the conflict.

His two-day visit is also a demonstration of support for Israel, which is increasingly isolated, while a heated debate on commitment to the creation of a Palestinian state is expected to take place at the United Nations next week. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly opposes the recognition of a Palestinian State.
Rubio's visit took place despite US President Donald Trump's anger towards Netanyahu over the Israeli strike on Doha. On Sunday, Netanyahu, Rubio and their wives, as well as U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee and his wife, toured the Western Wall and the tunnels excavated next to it. Earlier, Rubio and Trump met with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani to discuss the consequences of the Israeli operation. These two meetings with Israel and Qatar clearly demonstrate how the Trump administration is trying to balance relations with key allies in the Middle East, despite widespread international condemnation of the attack.
The Guardian: At the Emmy Awards ceremony, they called for a cease-fire in Gaza
Major television stars took advantage of this year's Emmy Awards to speak out against Israel's war in the Gaza Strip, either through red carpet outfits or fiery acceptance speeches. "Hakki" actress Hannah Einbinder, who won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy, wore a red Artists4Ceasefire brooch, as did "White Lotus" stars Aimee Lou Wall and Natasha Rothwell, Ruth Negga from "Presumed Innocence" and Chris Perfetti from "Abbott Elementary School."

The badge asks the U.S. government to call for "immediate de-escalation and a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and Israel before another person is killed." Concluding her acceptance speech, Einbinder said: "Go ahead, birds, to hell with ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. — Ed.) and liberate Palestine," right before the music started.
Spanish actor Javier Bardem, nominated for his role in the movie "Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Eric Menendez," wore a kaffiyeh to the Emmy Award ceremony and said on the red carpet that he "cannot work with a man who justifies or supports genocide," while the star of the TV series "The Hacks.""Megan Stalter came with a handbag on which was written in marker "Cease-fire!"
Reuters: Arab countries warn of threat to relations with Israel
The leaders of Arab and Islamic states have warned that Israel's attack on Qatar and other "hostile acts" threaten peaceful coexistence and efforts to normalize relations in the region, according to a draft resolution to be presented at the Arab-Islamic summit on September 15. The summit is being convened in Doha as a sign of Qatar's support after the Israeli attack on the leaders of the Palestinian militant group Hamas living in this Persian Gulf state.

An excerpt from the draft resolution says that "Israel's brutal attack on Qatar and the continuation of Israel's hostile actions, including genocide, ethnic cleansing, famine, siege, as well as colonization and expansion policies, threaten the prospects for peace and coexistence in the region." These actions jeopardize "everything that has been achieved towards normalization of relations with Israel, including current and future agreements," according to a draft developed by the foreign ministers who met ahead of the summit.
In response to international condemnation of the attack on Qatar, Netanyahu continued to put pressure on the emirate over the presence of Hamas leaders on its territory, demanding that Doha either expel Hamas officials or "hold them accountable, because if you don't do it, we will." Netanyahu said that removing the Hamas leaders living in Qatar would remove the main obstacle to the release of the hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza and ending the war.
