- Businessman Sagal called for the development of brewing production and brands of the Russian Federation
Russia should maximize the development of domestic brands and production in the field of brewing due to their enormous potential. Alexey Sagal, a representative of the Arnest Packaging Solutions Board of directors, informed Izvestia about this on September 13.
"I believe that we must resolve import substitution issues as much as possible, develop Russian brands and Russian production as much as possible, because the potential is huge. Our fortifications have developed quality over the decades. This is a separate story related to brewing," he said at the Baltika Fest, which takes place on September 13.
Sagal pointed out the great export potential of Russian companies. According to him, therefore, the situation of dependence on imports, which has developed over the past decades and is rapidly changing at the moment, must be solved by internal resources. To achieve this goal, the entrepreneur urged to unite and use all the best in cooperation.
Sagal also drew attention to the production of aluminum cans for beverages in Russia.
"Today, 11.5 billion cans of aluminum are produced and sold in Russia, and about 200 million more are imported. And about half a billion banks are missing," he said.
According to him, another $4 billion worth of capacities are being created in Voronezh and Ulyanovsk due to investments by Russian companies. Sagal stressed that this would resolve all issues related to their shortage.
He also noted that the shortage of aluminum cans is a problem that has hindered the development of Russian brewers and beverage manufacturers for many years. At the moment, this problem will be completely solved.
"There are 3.5 billion free cans on the market, so I strongly <...> show and recommend that beverage companies and brewing companies <...> invest in capacity. It takes time, and they have additional business development opportunities," Sagal added.
He noted that statistics show that aluminum cans in the Russian Federation account for 31% of the packaging of all beer products. At the same time, he clarified that in the world's largest markets this figure reaches 40-60%. Against this background, he emphasized the possible doubling of the share of products in banks in the future.
"It's eco-friendly, it's a closed cycle [of production]. It is a product that can be infinitely recycled without loss of consumer qualities for the buyer. Russian companies have excellent export potential, because the bank is well known in the world. The jar is easy to transport. And we are very glad that we can participate <... It is at the present time, in the present years, that this industry develops and contributes," he concluded.
Earlier that day, Nikolai Tyurnikov, CEO of ABN BIOFES Beverages Together, emphasized the importance of uniting brewers in the Russian Federation in order to jointly solve the complex challenges facing the industry. He also noted that the brewing market in Russia grew by 10.3% in 2024. According to him, this has become a record indicator.
