In Russia, parental leave is included in the length of service, thereby preserving the right to a future pension. This was announced on September 13 by Senator Natalia Koshikhina.

"Periods of socially significant activity, such as parental leave, are included in the insurance record of one of the parents. This is very important, as it allows you to retain the right to receive a pension in the future. For each year that a parent takes care of a child until they reach the age of one and a half, a certain number of pension coefficients are assigned: 1.8 for the first child, 3.6 for the second child, 5.4 for the third and subsequent children," the senator explained in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Koshikhina explained that pension points earned during maternity leave are added to those already accumulated for work and directly affect the final pension amount. Moreover, she stressed that the decree not only does not reduce pension payments, but is also able to increase them if the points earned during this period turn out to be higher than for ordinary work.

If the periods of work and other activities counted in the length of service overlap, then only one of them will be selected for calculating the pension — the one that will give the greatest benefit. For example, if a woman was working and on maternity leave at the same time, the period with the highest number of earned pension points will be taken into account, the senator summed up.
