- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus condemned Poland and Latvia for the closure of airspace
On September 11, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus condemned the actions of the Polish and Latvian authorities to close the airspace with the republic.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus strongly condemns the actions of the Polish and Latvian authorities to de facto close the airspace along the border with Belarus," BelTA quoted the message.
The Foreign Ministry clarified that this initiative of the countries will cause significant damage to the European Union (EU) and its business partners, as well as worsen the situation with international passenger and cargo transportation, which will lead to the EU's self-isolation. The agency also called these restrictions discriminatory.
Earlier in the day, Latvia closed the airspace on its eastern border with Russia and Belarus for a week. At the same time, Poland restricted traffic along the border with Belarus and Ukraine. The restrictions have entered into force and will remain in effect until December 9th of this year. It was clarified that flights in the border area are prohibited, excluding manned aircraft operating in accordance with the flight plan with the appropriate transponders.
