Russia is ready to continue to support efforts to normalize relations between Iran and the Persian Gulf countries. This was stated on September 11 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov following a meeting of the Russia—Gulf Arab Cooperation Council Strategic Dialogue.

As the Russian Foreign Minister pointed out, Moscow is interested in initiatives to stabilize the situation, including normalization of relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, which are being discussed by council members.

"We discussed the situation in the Bay area. <...> We are ready to support these efforts to the extent that the parties are interested," Lavrov said at a press conference.

During the meeting, Russia also recalled the main elements of its concept of collective security in the Gulf area, which experts have been discussing for several years.

"We are ready to work with all interested regional and non—regional countries to develop approaches to ensuring stability and security in the region, with the understanding that the decisive word should belong to the states of this strategically important region themselves," the head of the department said.

According to Lavrov, Russia proceeds from the fact that the establishment of peace and cooperation in the Gulf zone will be perfectly combined with the spirit put forward by Russian President Vladimir Putin to create a Eurasian security architecture based on the principle of the indivisibility of the security of our common Eurasian continent.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced an initiative to form a committee of foreign ministers of the organization's member countries at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in China on September 1. He noted that the purpose of the committee is to resolve crises that endanger peace and security in the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, responding to a question from a correspondent of Izvestia on August 15, said that Iran highly appreciates the SCO for its support in connection with the conflict with Israel. According to him, this organization is very important and the Iranian side attaches great importance to it.
