Tokyo has closed all six Japanese centers in Russia
Japan has decided to close all six technical assistance centers that supported reforms in Russia. This was announced by the Secretary General of the Japanese Government, Yoshimasa Hayashi. His words on September 10 are quoted by the Sanyonews portal.
Hayashi explained this as a solution to the changed situation in Russia and the deterioration of relations between Moscow and Tokyo. He also noted that the centers will cease their activities due to new circumstances.
The centers, opened in 1994, were focused on supporting socio-economic reforms in Russia. They organized training courses and events aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries.
The Mainichi newspaper said on August 29 that Tokyo should maintain relations with Moscow. The publication states that Russia has been and remains a neighboring country, and Japan simply cannot afford to sever relations with it.
