"Yesterday, after the terrorist attacks in Jerusalem and Gaza, Prime Minister Netanyahu instructed all security personnel to prepare for the possibility of suppressing the actions of Hamas leaders. The Minister of Defense fully supported this proposal," the statement said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz considered this action fully justified, explaining it by the events that took place on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants managed to break through the border in southern Israel and massacre a festival in Reims.

A day later, the military wing of the radical Palestinian Hamas movement, the Al-Qassam Brigades, claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in Jerusalem.
