- The orientalist called the settlement of the conflict after Israel's operation in Gaza a fairy tale.
A peaceful settlement of the conflict after the Israeli ground operation in the Gaza Strip seems unlikely. Sergey Balmasov, an expert at the Institute of the Middle East and an expert at the Russian International Affairs Council, told Izvestia on September 9.
"For several decades now, the peaceful settlement in the Middle East, in Palestine, has become such a fairy tale. But here, of course, everything will depend on the real willingness of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to carry out the displacement of this population. However, given the various counterweights in the form of American leader Donald Trump, the question arises: how realistic will he be able to do this," the source said.
Speaking about the reaction of the Palestinian authorities and groups to Netanyahu's statements, Balmasov predicted negative consequences. In his opinion, the Palestinian authorities will continue to seek humanitarian assistance and support from other Arab countries, but no real help has been provided yet.
On September 8, Netanyahu announced a massive ground operation in Gaza and called on residents to leave the city. He drew attention to the fact that 50 terrorist towers had collapsed in the past two days. According to Netanyahu, this is just a prelude to a major intensive operation.
Prior to that, on September 7, the Palestinian Hamas movement agreed to discuss the release of the hostages being held in exchange for a cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
