The State Duma proposed to introduce a tax on the intensity of car use
In Russia, it was proposed to replace the transport tax with a fee, which is calculated based on the intensity of car use. This initiative was made by the chairman of the Fair Russia — For Truth party, Sergei Mironov.
In his opinion, paying for the intensity of car use instead of paying for the fact of owning a car, the cost of which is decreasing, will be more fair. Therefore, the transport tax in its current form should be abolished.
"That's when the fair principle will start working — whoever drives, pays," TASS quoted Mironov as saying on September 5.
The party leader recalled that now the transport tax is calculated depending on the engine power. As a result, the same amount is paid by those who spend the whole day driving, and those who go to the country only a few times a year, he said.
Mironov proposed to compensate for the shortfall in budget revenues by canceling tax breaks and raising taxes for the oil and gas industry. In the autumn session of the State Duma, his faction will seek the adoption of these initiatives, the parliamentarian added.
Earlier, on September 3, the State Duma offered to replace state automobile registration plates free of charge, which do not have the Russian tricolor, with those with the image of the flag. The initiative "will reduce the number of disputes and risks for bona fide car owners, as well as help to curb the turnover of duplicates that do not meet the updated standard," its author is confident.
