A boat crash in Niger killed 29 people. This was reported on September 3 by The Guardian Nigeria newspaper, citing local authorities.

According to the Director General of the Niger Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Abdullahi Baba-Arah, the incident occurred on Tuesday, September 2. There were 90 passengers on board at the time of the sinking. Currently, two people are also missing.

An overload of the vessel or a collision with a wooden object in the water were named as the alleged versions of the incident.

Earlier, on August 14, at least 26 people died as a result of the crash of a migrant boat off the Italian island of Lampedusa, 60 survivors were safely brought ashore. It is specified that the migrants were heading to Europe from Libya.
