For the first time in a year, the average cost of cars has increased in Russia
In Russia, the first increase in the average cost of both foreign and domestic cars was recorded this year. Despite this, prices are under pressure from pent-up demand due to expectations for a revision of macroeconomic indicators. <url> Evaluation experts told Izvestia about this on September 4, having studied the ads for the sale of new cars at the end of the summer.
The average price of a new Russian-made car in August 2025 was 1.58 million rubles (an increase of 0.8% compared to the previous month), actually returning to the level of the beginning of the year. The average cost of a new Chinese-made car was 3.53 million rubles, or +0.5% compared to July.
Compared to August last year, the average price increased by only 1.7%, and since the beginning of the year, the decrease has been more than 3%. At the same time, the number of new Chinese cars on sale continues to decrease: supply in this segment fell by 34% by August 2024 and by more than 40% from the peak at the end of last year.
A decrease in average prices of more than 2% is noted in 10 regions of the country. The Ryazan region became the leader in this indicator (a decrease of 7%, to 3.2 million rubles), due to an increase in the volume of supply in the budget price segment. The Republic of Bashkortostan became the leader in increasing the average cost in August, with a 12% jump in a month to 2.62 million rubles. In the capital region, the price rose by 0.5% (to 5.24 million rubles) and remains the highest in the country.
The top five models, whose average cost decreased across the country in August, were entirely made up of Chery cars. Among domestic brands, a slight decrease was recorded only for the Solaris HS sedan (-1%; 2.17 million rubles). A noticeable increase in the average cost in August was recorded for only 10 models, while only four of them exceeded 2%. These are the SWM G05 Pro, Xcite X-Cross 7, Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max and Lixiang L7.
The day before, it was reported that by the end of August 2025, 122.2 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 17.6% less than in the last summer month of last year. Lada Granta family cars (including those produced on its basis) continue to excel in the Russian car market: In August, sales totaled 12.9 thousand units, which is 31.4% less than a year ago.
