Spending on children's school fees has almost doubled, from 13 billion rubles in 2024 to 21.9 billion rubles in 2025. This is the conclusion reached by analysts of the martech platform First Data, who studied online purchases of citizens in July and August. Izvestia got acquainted with the results of the study on August 29.

The most in-demand category this year was stationery, accounting for 56% of all purchases of school supplies (10 million items), and Russians spent 2.7 billion rubles on stationery. School literature took the second place in terms of sales, accounting for 24% of all purchases (4.3 million items) or 1.6 billion rubles.

According to the results of the study, 16% of sales (2.9 million goods) or 5 billion rubles accounted for school uniforms, and 4% of all purchases were electronic equipment — parents of schoolchildren spent 12.6 billion rubles (728 thousand goods) on this category of goods.

"The largest cities in terms of the number of online purchases are Moscow (17%), St. Petersburg (5%), Krasnodar (3%), they accounted for 25% of all purchases of school supplies," the analysts noted.

They also calculated how much parents spend on fees per pupil for school in different regions. Thus, in Moscow and the Moscow Region, 16,010 rubles were spent per student, in the Pskov Region — 13,341 rubles, in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug — 12,928 rubles, in the Magadan Region — 12,271 rubles, and in St. Petersburg - 9,777 rubles.

The least amount spent online per student was 2,779 rubles in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, 1,885 rubles in the Republic of Dagestan, 1,193 rubles in the Republic of Ingushetia, 914 rubles in the Chechen Republic, and 709 rubles in the Republic of Crimea.

"The average prices of goods from the main categories were analyzed. Sketchbooks (9%), diaries (6%) and notebooks (5%) rose the most in the stationery category. The average cost of school literature and textbooks remained unchanged," the experts said.

Speaking about school uniforms, analysts noted a 16% increase in average prices. Purchases of school supplies begin at the beginning of July, the increasing peak of activity falls on the first week of August, in the second week the number of purchases increases fourfold and continues to grow until the beginning of September. The vast majority of purchases (90%) are made by women. The leading age group is 35-45 years old (44% of all purchases).

On July 25, deputies of the State Duma drafted a bill according to which parents of schoolchildren will be paid annually an amount equal to the subsistence minimum before the start of the school year.
