Despite the fact that Serbia is on the European path, the country will not impose sanctions against Russia. This was announced on August 29 by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

The Serbian leader noted that he continues to maintain traditional relations with Moscow, but also considers EU membership as one of the directions.

"I am responsible only to Serbia. Serbia will not impose sanctions against Russia. Serbia is on the European path," he said.

The Head of State said that many citizens are emotionally closer to Russia, while others support the direction towards the path of the European Union (EU).

"I cannot explain to my father why the European path is important, not because he is stupid, he has achieved a lot, received higher education and so on, but I cannot explain to them because they love Russia more and are guided by their emotions," Vucic gave an example on TV Pink.

Earlier, on August 25, Vucic said that while he holds his post, Belgrade will faithfully follow the path of joining the EU. In addition, the Serbian president proposed making Belgrade a venue for potential talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin, with whom he has "warm relations," and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
