Canada has imposed sanctions against Hutsuls and the Victory bloc in Moldova
Canada announced its decision to impose sanctions against the head of the Gagauz Autonomy, Yevgenia Gutsul, the Pobeda opposition bloc, as well as against 15 other individuals and one legal entity. This is evidenced by a document published on August 28 on the agency's website.
"Canada is imposing sanctions against individuals and legal entities," the text says.
This decision, which prohibits Canadians from making transactions with the people listed in the attached list, who in turn are prohibited from visiting Canada, was made due to alleged Russian interference in Moldovan affairs before the parliamentary elections to be held on September 28.
On August 21, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova pointed to Moldova's attempts to limit the activities of the "increasingly popular" opposition in her country. Later, the leader of the Victory bloc, Ilan Shor, also accused the President of the republic of betraying the interests of his people, in particular, betraying the image of a "strong and prosperous state."
The former head of the American Agency for International Development and Relief (USAID), Samantha Power, in an interview with Russian pranksters Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov (Vovan and Lexus) on August 27, reported that the United States had made large-scale attempts to interfere in the elections in Moldova before the current President of the United States, Donald Trump, came to power. This, she said, was done through increased funding to counter alleged "Russian influence."
Zakharova noted on the same day that, looking at the released video of Power's statements, she was confused because she did not know which was "scarier: to listen or to watch."
