In Ukraine, young people are recruited directly from home, and they undergo a formal commission. This was announced by a captured militant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Dmitry Putsko. A video clip of his story was published on August 27 by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

"The medical examination was conducted formally, so I immediately found myself in training, or rather, I was undergoing basic combined arms training. <...> They didn't really teach me anything," Putsko stressed.

He noted the poor planning of military operations by the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enormous losses in manpower and equipment.

Putsko also spoke about the good attitude of the Russian military towards the prisoners and called on fellow soldiers to lay down their weapons and not participate in hostilities.

In July, Vasyl Chernets, a prisoner of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that he had been deceived into joining the front. The man lived in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. He was picked up by the police when he was cleaning up his house and burning garbage. They allegedly wanted to take Chernets to the police station so that he would pay the fine, but in fact he ended up with the staff of the shopping mall. From there, he was sent to the front to serve in the 156th separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
