Chinese Deputy Commerce Minister to visit the United States for trade talks
Chinese Deputy Commerce Minister Li Chenggang will arrive in Washington for trade talks with the administration of US President Donald Trump. This was reported on August 25 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.
"Li Chenggang <...> will meet with U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer and senior officials of the Ministry of Finance this week," the publication says.
It will be clarified that meetings of representatives of the business community are also planned this week. The countries are trying to establish a dialogue during the tariff truce, and China, among others, is likely to seek the abolition of 20 percent duties.
On August 25, Trump expressed confidence that there is an opportunity to establish "excellent relations" between the United States and China.
On August 12, the American leader announced that he had signed a decree suspending the increase in duties on goods from China for a period of 90 days. He stressed that all previous US agreements remain unchanged.
