The Ministry of Agriculture announced an excess of buckwheat on the domestic market in 2025

This year, there will be an abundance of raw materials for the production of buckwheat groats on the Russian food market. This was announced on Monday, August 25, by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The ministry noted that the buckwheat harvest has just begun, but the average crop yield is already 17.2 hundredweight per hectare, which is 3.7 hundredweight per hectare more than last year. Since the beginning of the harvest, 253.6 thousand tons of buckwheat have already been produced.

In addition, the ministry recalled that as of August 1, 2025, last year's reserves of buckwheat remained in the amount of 210 thousand tons. This is due to the large buckwheat harvest last year, when 580 thousand tons were produced, which is 4.5% more than in 2023.

"As of August 20, according to Rosstat, the retail price of buckwheat is 4.3% lower than last year and averages 77 rubles per kg," TASS reports.

However, due to the large reserves, there is no shortage of cereals on the shelves.

On April 20, it was reported that in March, Russia increased exports of buckwheat to China to a record level of $13.3 million. The last maximum was set in December 2023, when the figure was $10.3 million.
