Israel is ready to support Lebanon in disarming the Shiite Hezbollah movement. This follows from a statement by the Office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on August 25.

It is noted that the decision of the Council of Ministers of Lebanon to work on the disarmament of Hezbollah by the end of 2025 was significant and represents a crucial opportunity for Beirut to restore sovereignty and restore the authority of state institutions, the army and governance without the influence of non-state actors.

In particular, Tel Aviv expressed its readiness to support "joint work on a safer and more stable future for both countries."

"If the Lebanese armed forces take the necessary steps to disarm Hezbollah, Israel will take retaliatory measures, including a phased reduction of the IDF presence in coordination with the US—led security mechanism," according to a post on the chancellery's account on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier, on August 21, the Axios portal reported on the US administration's call for Israel to reduce strikes on Lebanon in order to disarm Hezbollah. It was clarified that the Lebanese authorities had begun disarmament preparations on Washington's instructions, but residents of the country doubt the government's ability to do so.

Prior to that, on August 6, Hezbollah rejected the Lebanese government's decision to seize weapons from the movement. At the same time, the movement expressed its readiness to discuss a defense strategy with a view to liberating the land and prisoners, as well as building a Lebanese state without attacks from the Israeli side. At the same time, it was clarified that Israel must first comply with the ceasefire agreement.
