The most powerful solar flare has been recorded since June 20 this year. This was announced on August 25 in the Telegram channel of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"The largest solar flare has just been recorded since June 20 of this year. The event had a score of M4.6 and belonged to the 4th category according to the modern 5-point flare system. The maximum radiation was registered at 08:24 Moscow time," the report says.

According to the laboratory, such an event occurred due to a sharp increase in solar activity, which is associated with the appearance of several large active centers on the visible side of the solar disk.

On August 22, a powerful Class M flare was recorded on the Sun at 21:51 Moscow time. Its duration was 72 minutes.

Earlier, on August 15, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the IKI RAS reported that a large coronal hole was forming on the Sun, which could cause an increase in the speed of the solar wind and lead to an aggravation of the geomagnetic situation.
