- Vance noted the ineffectiveness of imposing sanctions against Russia for a cease-fire.
The introduction of new anti-Russian sanctions by the United States will not lead to a ceasefire in Ukraine. This was announced on August 24 by American Vice President Jay Dee Vance to NBC News.
"In our opinion, we can use the right leverage <...>. So, you said that sanctions will not lead to a cease-fire. I think that's obviously the case," Vance said in an interview posted on NBC's YouTube channel.
According to him, the issue of imposing new sanctions is still being discussed, but the United States has "a lot of cards in its hands" to stop the conflict in Ukraine.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said on August 14 that US President Donald Trump does not want to impose new sanctions against Russia in light of the conflict in Ukraine, and his policy priority is diplomacy. She noted that the American leader has every opportunity to take restrictions and "many other measures" to influence Moscow, but he can take such steps only if a situation really arises that is forced to do so.
