PSU scientists have created a tool for polishing the surface of the tooth root
A unique tool for oral hygiene that allows polishing the surface of the roots of teeth has been developed by specialists from Penza State University (PSU). This was announced by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation on Saturday, August 23.
As explained in the department, such a device can help to cure periodontitis as soon as possible, as well as prevent its return. The fact is that with periodontitis, a mineralized biofilm forms on the teeth — tartar, which gradually begins to destroy the tissues around it. To prevent tooth loss, it is necessary to remove all stone particles from it, including in hard-to-reach places.
This effect is very difficult to achieve with the currently available tools. Ultrasonic scalers, curettes, gracies, and periodontal burs can damage the gums and are also unable to penetrate into the root branching zones. The new device is significantly superior to its predecessors.
"The smoothness of the root after polishing with our tool significantly reduces the adhesion of microorganisms. This was confirmed by clinical trials: after a month, bleeding, swelling and redness of the gums decreased in patients," said the author of the development, Adel Makbol, an assistant at the Department of Dentistry at PSU, in an interview "Газете.Ru ".
The device is equipped with silicone nozzles that repeat the anatomy of the root and do not injure the gums. With this tool, you can penetrate into the periodontal pockets and clean the tartar completely, preventing further development of the disease.
To date, the device has been patented and tested at the PSU Dental Clinic with positive reviews.
Earlier, on August 21, Tatiana Morozova, a dentist at the Medicine and Harmony clinic, told Izvestia that the causes of periodontitis can be different. This includes a genetic predisposition, a violation of trophic (nutrition) tissues, malocclusion, as well as banal poor oral hygiene. Complications after improper prosthetics or treatment should also not be discounted.
Before that, on August 4, Veronika Melekhova, a dentist and maxillofacial surgeon, spoke about the dangers of fillings from marketplaces for dental treatment. According to the dentist, during the installation of the filling, doctors remove caries and treat its complications, sometimes restoring the shape of the tooth with a filling. All this is done in sterile conditions, not to mention the constant disinfection of the treatment site. When a person tries to put a seal himself, he does not pay attention either to the tooth disease or to proper disinfection.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
