- Axios reported on the US call to reduce strikes on Lebanon in order to disarm Hezbollah
The US administration has called on Israel to reduce strikes on Lebanon in order to disarm the Shiite Hezbollah movement. This was reported on August 21 by the Axios portal, citing sources.
"The administration of [US President Donald] Trump appealed to Israel to reduce "non—urgent" military actions in Lebanon in order to support the decision of the Lebanese government to begin the process of disarming Hezbollah, the portal said.
According to Axios, the Lebanese authorities have begun preparations for the disarmament of Hezbollah at the insistence of the United States, but residents of the country doubt that the government will be able to carry it out.
Earlier, on August 6, Hezbollah rejected the decision of the Lebanese government to seize weapons from the movement. At the same time, Hezbollah expressed its readiness to discuss a defense strategy to free the land and prisoners, as well as to build a Lebanese state without attacks from Tel Aviv. According to the statement, Israel must first comply with the ceasefire agreement.
Later, on August 21, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) attacked Hezbollah's military installations and infrastructure in Lebanon. It is clarified that the reason for the attack was a violation of agreements between Israel and Lebanon due to the availability of Hezbollah's appropriate weapons and infrastructure.
