The situation in the Gaza Strip is moving beyond the usual conflict and is moving to a new level. This was stated to Izvestia on August 21 by political analyst Dmitry Brije, commenting on the beginning of the Israeli Army (IDF) offensive on Gaza.

According to the expert, Tel Aviv, by launching ground operations and taking control of the outskirts of Gaza City, demonstrates its determination to complete the operation.

"Israel has set itself the task not just to weaken [the Palestinian movement] Hamas, but to completely change the strategic reality in the Gaza Strip. We see the concentration of forces, the mass mobilization of reservists, and preparations for protracted operations in dense urban areas. All this indicates that the IDF is aiming for a large—scale offensive, perhaps the largest in the last 30 years," the expert said.

However, he stressed that the current stage represents a transition from the blockade and isolation to a full-scale invasion of the urban environment of Gaza. Israel's main task is not only to neutralize individual Hamas cells, but also to destroy the entire system of governance and resistance. The expert explained that Israel would seek to encircle central areas and take control of strategic hubs, roads and hospitals.

"The experience of past operations shows that even with Israel's colossal military superiority, Tel Aviv is facing serious losses and the inability to completely destroy the resistance infrastructure. For Hamas and other forces operating in Gaza and awaiting an offensive, this is not only a military challenge, but also a chance to strengthen their own political influence," the political scientist stressed.

Demonstration offensive: Israel's operation in Gaza may be delayed until 2026

The number of reservists involved will reach 130 thousand people.

The IDF launched an offensive on the city of Gaza on August 20, located in the Palestinian enclave of the same name. It was noted that Israel currently controls the outskirts of the city.
