Rosatom State Corporation expects to start construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant in Hungary in November this year. Alexey Likhachev, the general director of the state corporation, told reporters about this on August 21.

"We are aiming for the first concrete in November," Interfax quoted him as saying.

Pouring the first concrete into the foundation means the actual start of construction of the NPP power unit.

On June 29, the United States lifted a number of sanctions against Russia, which prevented the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto stated that if sanctions were maintained, energy prices in Europe would increase several times. Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and special presidential envoy for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, called the lifting of sanctions a key precedent and a reversal of the failed policy of former US President Joe Biden.
