The owners of the Soviet "Urals" told about the features of these motorcycles
Interest in Ural motorcycles has grown noticeably after Russian leader Vladimir Putin presented one of them to an Alaskan resident when he was in Anchorage as part of the Russian-American summit. The owners of the equipment told Izvestia about the advantages of their motorcycles.
Alexander Pineker's Ural from Kazakhstan has never let him down in 44 years, Soviet equipment has always worked reliably. He bought his first motorcycle in the 1980s, when it was not easy to get a Ural. For the sake of his dream, he sold his Izh and searched for a suitable model for many months. Since then, the motorcycle has become an indispensable assistant: he drove the whole family to nature, helped with household chores, transported potatoes, pulled trailers.
Pineker considers the most valuable qualities of the equipment to be a reliable and powerful engine, good sound, as well as a convenient gearbox with reverse gear. He said that he had never regretted the purchase. Recently, the owner of Ural restored the motorcycle with his grandson — now he plans to pass on the legendary motorcycle to him by inheritance.
Alexander Zayats from Minsk restores and collects Soviet-made Ural motorcycles. He bought the first one back in 2018. Today there are several models in his collection — M72, M61, M62 and M63. Zayats is sure that each of them "reflects its time". He shows motorcycles at exhibitions and "preserves them for the sake of history," he is not going to sell them.
"He looks powerful, sounds cool, and is charismatic. The car is so old, Soviet, good. That is, these are not small motorcycles. The volume, his appearance and charisma are probably what I like the most. I like to bring them back to life, I like to poke around. I still want them not to disappear into scrap metal somewhere, but to remain in good hands, to travel, to please people," Zayats told Izvestia.
According to the collector, the restoration requires a lot of effort. Finding spare parts is difficult and expensive, and driving a motorcycle with a sidecar is not easy. However, people's interest pays off all the difficulties — Ural always gathers viewers at exhibitions, and foreigners admire it, Zayats added.
On August 17, Putin presented a new Ural motorcycle to local motorcyclist Mark Warren during a visit to Alaska. It is specified that the gift was given to the motorcyclist through Russian diplomats. According to Andrei Ledenev, Minister Counselor of the Russian Embassy in the United States, this motorcycle was a personal gift from the President of Russia. Warren himself called the Ural a "simply magnificent" vehicle.
