The Russian Foreign Ministry compared the World Bank's spending on Ukraine and Africa
The World Bank allocates more funds to support the regime of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky than to the entire African continent. This was stated on August 20 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin during the plenary session of the New Era — New Ways forum.
According to him, resources at the World Bank are not used to solve problems that are discussed at United Nations (UN) forums or G20 summits.
"The redistribution of resources is purely political," TASS quoted Pankin as saying.
Pankin noted that the secretariats of international financial institutions "have come under serious political influence from the West." At the same time, in his opinion, at the moment the centers of economic power "are shifting from the West to Eurasia, Latin America and Africa."
On August 8, the Council of the European Union (EU) approved the allocation of €3.2 billion in macro-financial assistance to Kiev from the European Fund for Ukraine so that the state could finance government agencies and service government loans.
In December 2024, it was reported that the European Commission had transferred to Kiev a tranche of €4.1 billion from the European Fund for Support of Ukraine. It was noted that the volume of macro-financial lending under the fund was increased to €16.1 billion.
