The Moldovan government will not be able to appeal the appeal of the defense of the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul. Viktor Vodolatsky, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, told Izvestia on August 20.

Natalia Bayram, the lawyer of the head of Gagauzia, told Izvestia on the same day that the defense had filed a complaint with the Chisinau Court of Appeal against the verdict.

"As of today, there is no legislation in Moldova, neither civil nor criminal, because the dictatorship of the President of the Republic, Maia Sandu, rules there," he stressed.

The MP also drew attention to the fact that curators from the European Union (EU), in particular the British, actively interfere in the affairs of the country. He explained that for any statement about the sovereignty of Moldova, a person can end up behind bars. In addition, criminal cases are initiated for far-fetched reasons, and it is impossible to appeal such decisions, which underlines the lack of sovereignty of the republics.

Vodolatsky also proposed measures to ensure a fair trial.

"It is necessary for civil society and all pro-Moldovan parties to unite and hold re-elections. To create a government that will ensure Moldova's development in cooperation with many countries, including the former CIS countries. And, of course, to protect their interests, rather than trying to decide how to make Moldova an appendage of Romania," the expert concluded.

On August 16, thousands of Gagauz residents arrived in Chisinau to participate in a peaceful protest against the illegal detention of Hutsuls. Bashkan's supporters chanted slogans and called on the Moldovan authorities to resign.

On the same day, Moldovan police officers prevented supporters of the Pobeda opposition bloc from setting up tents at the Chisinau railway station. The law enforcement officers used force techniques and grabbed the participants to take them to the police station.

On August 5, the head of Gagauzia was sentenced to seven years in prison in the case of allegedly financing the Shor party. Initially, the prosecutor's office requested nine years. On the same day, Hutsul reported on the great support provided to her. Gagauz residents gathered outside the courthouse, where her family members were not allowed to enter at the time of sentencing. Later, on August 13, international lawyers joined in defending the Hutsuls' interests.
