The European Union (EU) intends to train soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and strengthen the defense industry as part of the promotion of security guarantees for Kiev. This was announced on August 19 by the head of the diplomatic service of the community, Kaya Kallas, on the social network X (former. Twitter).

"The EU will contribute to security guarantees, in particular, by training Ukrainian soldiers and strengthening Ukraine's armed forces and defense industry," she said.

Earlier in the day, Callas announced the date of the adoption of the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia. According to the European official, a new package of sanctions against Moscow should be ready by next month.

Prior to that, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said that the United States would discuss acceptable security guarantees for Ukraine with the Russian Federation. She added that the United States does not rule out air support as part of such guarantees.
