Karachays have a high risk of premature skin aging
Karachays have a high predisposition to premature skin aging, which is caused by ultraviolet radiation, geneticists told Izvestia. Ossetians, Mari, Chuvash, Tatars, and Ashkenazi Jews are also highly likely to start this process.
In the study, the scientists studied mutations in the IRF4 gene, which is responsible for regulating pigment that affects skin, eye, and hair color.
"A mutation in this gene increases the risk of a precancerous condition — actinic keratosis, the appearance of age spots, decreased skin elasticity and wrinkles," the geneticists emphasized.
In fair-skinned people, age-related changes are more often manifested by wrinkles, the skin loses elasticity, and people with dark skin are characterized by hyperpigmentation and uneven tone, said Alexandra Fileva, a dermatologist at the Hemotest laboratory.
