Moldovan diasporas from Russian regions have appealed to the country's authorities responsible for holding parliamentary elections, and have also written letters to international organizations asking them to increase the number of polling stations. This was stated on August 17 in a statement by representatives of the diaspora.

It is noted that the St. Petersburg diaspora organization Moldovan Heritage has sent a letter to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Central Election Commission of Moldova, the country's Embassy in the Russian Federation, the Office for Diaspora Relations of the Republic of Moldova, the ODIHR, the OSCE and the organization's mission in Moldova. The purpose of the organization's appeal is "to protect the legitimate rights of Moldovans of Russia to participate fully in the parliamentary elections in Moldova."

"We could not stand aside in this situation, as the protection of the rights and interests of our compatriots remains our first priority," said Fedor Ursu, the head of the organization.

It clarifies that the Moldovan diaspora in the Russian Federation requires the opening of the required number of polling stations, as well as strict observance of all norms excluding restrictions on the voting rights of Moldovan citizens.

The elections to the Moldovan parliament are scheduled for September 28.

Earlier, on July 30, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Moldovan authorities' decision to open only two polling stations in Russia was pushing their own citizens. She also said that a petition had previously been created to increase the number of polling stations. On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the electoral rights of Moldovan citizens living outside the republic were being violated by Chisinau.
