- The Russian Academy of Sciences reported the disappearance of almost all sunspots
The spots on the Earth-facing side of the Sun have almost completely disappeared. This was announced on August 17 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"The most notable feature of recent days is the almost complete disappearance of spots on the Earth—facing side of the Sun," the Telegram channel says.
The organization explained that sunspots are still present, but have decreased to a minimum size. In addition, according to their data, if nothing changes, the number of solar flares may disappear completely by the beginning of next week.
Earlier, on August 15, the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that a large coronal hole was forming on the Sun, which could cause an increase in the speed of the solar wind and lead to an aggravation of the geomagnetic situation. It was noted that due to the growth of the coronal hole, the speed of the solar wind will exceed the values by about 2-2.5 times.
