On August 11, US President Donald Trump announced at a press conference in Washington that he would be able to arrange a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, promising to personally participate in it if necessary.
"The next meeting will be with Zelensky and Putin, or Zelensky, Putin and me. I'll be there if they need me, but I want a meeting to be arranged between the two leaders," Trump said.
He added that after talks with Putin in Alaska, which are scheduled for August 15, he will inform Zelensky and European leaders about their results.
On August 10, Reuters, citing sources, reported that Trump was open to a trilateral summit with Zelensky and Putin. However, as the agency clarified, at the moment the White House is planning a bilateral meeting between Trump and Putin.
On August 8, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 15. The US president noted that details about the upcoming negotiations will be published later. Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov called the choice of a venue for negotiations logical. He said that the economic interests of the states intersect in the region.
