Russians will have the opportunity to observe the Aurora borealis for the second night in a row today. This was announced on August 9 by the press service of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS.

"There continue to be noticeable disturbances in the Earth's magnetic field caused by the recent surge in solar activity. In the time interval between 15 and 18 hours Moscow time, the geomagnetic field indices returned to their morning peaks, corresponding to weak and medium magnetic storms," the Telegram channel said.

It is noted that at the moment a polar oval is forming over the country and the phenomenon will be best seen in the eastern regions of Russia, where the sun has already set. If the geomagnetic situation remains at the current level for another 3-4 hours, the European part of the country will also be able to observe this phenomenon.

On August 8, it was possible to see the Aurora borealis in Moscow and St. Petersburg. It was noted that in the capital, the probability of observing the aurora borealis is 13%, in St. Petersburg - 24%. This is the highest probability in the last 1.5 months.
