For the inhabitants of the Earth, magnetic storms are a familiar and regular natural phenomenon. According to forecasts by forecasters and scientists of the IKI and ISFZ RAS, April 2025 will be one of the most difficult months for weather-sensitive people. It is believed that solar flares can affect a person if he suffers from disorders of the immune system, diseases of the heart and blood vessels, as well as pathologies of the nervous system. However, there are currently no reliable and scientifically proven medical studies that unequivocally confirm this connection. The meteoric forecast for the coming days is in the Izvestia article.

Magnetic storm forecast for April 2025

Starting from the second week of April, the geomagnetic situation will be quite unstable due to increased solar activity.

According to preliminary data from astronomical observatories and space weather monitoring services, the most noticeable disturbances of the Earth's magnetic field are predicted in the middle of the month, especially in the period from April 10 to 13 and from April 17 to 19. These days will be accompanied by bursts of G1–G2 geomagnetic activity, which corresponds to mild and moderate magnetic storms.

At the end of the month, starting on April 23, short-term outbreaks are also possible, they will be less pronounced and will last no more than a day. The general trend in April indicates that the month may turn out to be one of the most active in the first half of 2025.

Magnetic storms: the nature of the phenomenon

Magnetic storms are one of the most important elements of solar-terrestrial physics and its practical part, which is defined by the term "space weather". Magnetic storms are perturbations of the Earth's magnetic field caused by fluctuations in the Sun that last from several hours to several days. They can affect satellite and other technologies, and can also affect the general condition and health of people.

During a magnetic storm, complex processes occur involving the ionosphere, thermosphere, and magnetosphere. This affects the operation of radio communications, GPS navigation, spacecraft, and electrical networks on Earth.

Storms can disrupt shortwave radio communications, which is especially important for aviation and shipping. Ionization of the upper atmosphere is also increasing, which leads to the appearance of auroras, especially noticeable in high latitudes — in northern Canada, Iceland, and northern Russia. Sometimes auroras can be observed even in the middle latitudes, if the storm reaches extreme values.

Magnetic storms: human impact

There is an opinion that magnetic storms do not pass without a trace for humans. Although the Earth is generally well protected from the direct effects of the solar wind, changes in the magnetic field can have an impact on biological organisms.

Weather-dependent people often experience headaches, insomnia, irritability, spikes in blood pressure, and decreased concentration.

Scientists are still studying the mechanisms by which magnetic vibrations affect living organisms, but among the versions are the influence on circadian rhythms, the autonomic nervous system and electromagnetic processes in the body.

Mikhail Ignatov, an orthopedic traumatologist at the Orteca network, told Izvestia that magnetic storms have a particularly strong effect on people who suffer from arthritis. According to the expert, the human musculoskeletal system, like other parts of the body, feeds on blood. Its viscosity may increase due to increased solar activity and atmospheric pressure fluctuations.

The lack of sufficient synovial fluid leads to cartilage abrasion and damage to the joint capsule. For this reason, when atmospheric pressure drops, the pain signal is "transmitted" through the blood vessels of the body directly to the damaged bone junction, Ignatov explained. So pain on the eve of outbreaks and at their peak is really possible, the doctor emphasized.

The expert advised contacting an orthopedic traumatologist for frequent pain in the musculoskeletal system and undergoing an examination for chronic diseases.

Magnetic storms: how to protect yourself from weather damage

During magnetic storms, weather-sensitive people can experience a range of unpleasant symptoms: headaches, irritability, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and spikes in blood pressure.

Therefore, during such periods it is especially important to observe a certain regime and take care of your body. The first thing to do is to reduce physical and emotional stress. You should not overload yourself with things, make important decisions or get into conflicts. It is better to focus on routine tasks and try to avoid stressful situations.

If possible, you should plan your time in advance so that you can allocate more space for rest and recovery. It is very important to establish a sleep regime: go to bed and get up at the same time, do not stay up late, avoid gadgets before bedtime. Sound and regular sleep is one of the best ways to help the body cope with adverse conditions.

The diet during the period of magnetic storms is also important. It is better to give up fatty, heavy foods, as well as alcohol, coffee and energy drinks, which can increase the overexcitation of the nervous system and affect blood pressure. Preference should be given to light, balanced foods — vegetables, fruits, cereals, lean meat and fish. Be sure to drink enough water, especially if you experience weakness or headaches. Dehydration can exacerbate unpleasant symptoms.

Physical activity should be moderate: stretching, yoga, breathing exercises, simple exercises. Anything that helps restore balance and doesn't overload the body. For some, a contrast shower or a warm bath with essential oils helps.

During the period of geomagnetic activity, it is necessary to monitor blood pressure and pulse. Excessive physical activity should be avoided and alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine consumption should be minimized.

At the first signs of meteosensitivity, it is recommended to constantly monitor forecasts of magnetic storms in order to prepare for their impact and take measures in a timely manner. If your condition worsens during such periods, it is important not to delay your visit to the doctor. A specialist will help you choose individual recommendations and, if necessary, adjust the treatment regimen for chronic diseases.
