The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has begun dismantling loudspeakers installed along the border for noise campaigns against South Korea. This was reported on Saturday, August 9, by the Yonhap news agency, citing the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

"The actions of the DPRK military to turn off loudspeakers against South Korea have been detected in some parts of the frontline zone since Saturday morning," the OKNSH said in a statement.

The South Korean military said it was necessary to further verify whether this process would take place in all border areas, and promised to continue monitoring the actions of the DPRK army.

On August 4, the South Korean Ministry of Defense began removing loudspeakers for propaganda broadcasts towards the DPRK in order to reduce "inter-Korean tensions." Yonhap noted that South Korean President Lee Jae-myung ordered back in June to "restore trust" to suspend the very broadcast of propaganda speeches directed towards the DPRK.
