Proper operation of garden equipment is the key to its durability. However, many owners make mistakes that lead to breakdowns. Alexander Galkin, Product Director of the STARWIND brand, named the main ones to Izvestia on August 11.

According to him, one of the common mistakes is ignoring instructions. Equipment owners often rely on their own experience, which can lead to improper assembly and the use of unsuitable fuel.

It is also not uncommon for equipment to be used for other purposes. For example, trying to mow thick grass with a low-power trimmer can overheat the engine and cause it to break down. Late maintenance, such as dirty filters and lack of lubrication, also negatively affects performance.

Galkin stressed the importance of prevention: it is always cheaper than eliminating the consequences of improper operation. If any malfunction signals appear, such as strange noises or loss of power, the equipment must be stopped immediately and checked.

"Uncharacteristic sounds are the first and most obvious signal of a problem. If you hear a creaking, knocking, metallic clang, or notice a change in the usual sound of the engine, this indicates mechanical problems," Galkin said.

In addition, he drew attention to the fact that oil changes in gasoline equipment should be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations — for four-stroke engines, this is before the start of the season and every 25-50 hours of operation. The choice of fuel depends on the type of engine: two-stroke engines require a mixture of gasoline and oil, while four-stroke engines run on pure gasoline.

As for the preparation of equipment for the winter season, the expert added, it is necessary to clean it from dirt and plant residues, as well as to process the cutting elements. For gasoline technology, it is important to drain the fuel, as it loses its properties during storage.

"If the equipment will be stored in an unheated room, it is recommended to additionally wrap it with a breathable covering material. This will protect the instrument from temperature fluctuations and condensation, which can cause corrosion of metal parts," the source concluded.

On July 23, Andrey Tumanov, chairman of the Moscow Horticultural Union NGO, said that physical labor in the countryside helps to improve health and prolong life. In his opinion, growing plants is not as easy as it seems, and due to erroneous recommendations, yields in dachas have noticeably decreased.
