On August 7, US President Donald Trump appointed Stephen Miran, Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers (SEC) of the White House, to the board of directors of the Federal Reserve System (FRS) of the country until January 31, 2026.

"It is a great honor for me to announce that I have appointed Dr. Stephen Miran, the current chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, to the vacant seat on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System until January 31, 2026," he wrote on his Truth Social network.

Trump noted that Miran has a doctorate in economics from Harvard University and shows himself to be a competent specialist in his field.

Earlier, on July 2, Trump called on the head of the Federal Reserve System, Jerome Powell, to resign immediately. At the same time, on July 16, CBS News reported that the American leader had consulted with Republicans in Congress on Powell's dismissal. According to the channel, Trump has repeatedly raised the issue of Powell's replacement, as he kept interest rates at the same level instead of lowering them.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
