Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted that the country will continue to defend the rights of its farmers, even if it requires significant costs. He stated this on August 5 at a conference on food security.

"For us, the interests of our farmers are the main priority. India will never compromise on the interests of farmers, fishermen and dairy producers," he said.

The Indian Prime Minister stressed that India is ready to pay dearly for the interests of its farmers.

On July 30, US President Donald Trump announced that from August 1, Washington would impose duties on imports from New Delhi in the amount of 25%. The American leader explained that the decision on duties is also related to the trade imbalance between the United States and India.

The Indian Ministry of Trade and Industry said at the same time that the country remains committed to protecting its national interests against the backdrop of the imposition of US duties.
