Tomorrow, August 8, the Earth will be under the influence of the most powerful magnetic storm in the last two months, which will give a chance to see the aurora borealis. This was announced on August 7 by Sergey Bogachev, head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the IKI RAS.

"At the moment, the arrival of plasma to Earth is expected tomorrow, on the 8th, around 6:00-9:00 Moscow time," Bogachev said in an interview with RT.

It is noted that this storm is classified as medium on the space weather scale, although it can affect energy systems and affect the propagation of radio waves. According to Bogachev, auroras in such storms are usually visible at latitudes up to 60 degrees, but sometimes they can drop to 50 degrees.

"If it's 60, then it will be almost invisible on the territory of Russia. It's summer now and there's a polar day zone or white nights. If it drops to 50 degrees, then there are chances to see," he stressed.

The Laboratory of Solar Astronomy also warned on August 6 that geomagnetic disturbances, the source of which will be a coronal hole, may begin on Earth on August 8. In addition, the speed of the solar wind near the Earth's orbit will reach about 600-700 km/s on Friday and Saturday.
