Latvia to purchase 5,000 fence posts to strengthen border with Russia
Latvia is going to purchase almost 5,000 fence posts to strengthen the border with Russia. This was announced on July 4 on the official website of the Latvian Defense Procurement Center.
"In total, during 2025, it is planned to order 4,810 fencing stakes, 550 concrete blocks, at least 1,300 dragon teeth, 150 reinforced concrete road blocks, 1,160 anti—tank hedgehogs, as well as 10 anti-erosion mats," the material says.
The Defense Procurement Center also stated that the purpose of creating defensive structures is to "deter, stop and, if necessary, eliminate the enemy."
It is known that 45 million euros have been allocated for military reinforcement of the eastern border this year.
On June 29, it became known that the Lithuanian authorities had formed 27 engineering parks on the border with Belarus and Russia, which housed dragon's teeth, anti-tank hedgehogs and other means of counter-mobility. It was noted that Lithuania, together with Latvia, Estonia and Poland, took the initiative to initiate a project to protect the eastern border of the European Union, which should strengthen the 2,300 km border with Russia and Belarus.
