By order of Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, Polish Ambassador to Israel Maciej Hunya was summoned for an official demarche after Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk's remarks about the famine and death of children in the Gaza Strip. This was announced on August 5 by the press service of the Israeli Foreign Ministry in its Telegram channel.

On Sunday, August 3, Donald Tusk posted on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter) wrote that Poland will always be on the side of Israel, but does not support the actions of the Israeli government, which lead to "hunger and deaths of mothers and children." Tusk added that Poland's reaction should be obvious to "the peoples who shared the hell of World War II."

"The statements of the Polish side falsely accused Israel of using hunger as a weapon in Gaza and contained outrageous references to concentration camps. Israel strongly rejects these accusations," the ministry said in a statement.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry added that Poland should refrain from using language that distorts history and "insults the memory of the victims of the Holocaust." According to the Ministry, Israel is acting in accordance with international humanitarian law and has significantly stepped up its efforts to provide humanitarian assistance, including sending additional humanitarian convoys to the Gaza Strip, humanitarian pauses, opening safe routes for humanitarian aid, restoring infrastructure and dropping humanitarian aid from the air.

"Israel is counting on a constructive dialogue based on facts, and not on the propaganda of [the Palestinian movement] Hamas," the ministry concluded.

On the same day, The New York Times reported that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had several "tough" telephone conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about ending the conflict in the Gaza Strip. According to the NYT, the German Chancellor called on the Israeli Prime Minister to reach a cease-fire agreement in Gaza and allow more humanitarian aid to be delivered to the enclave.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported a day earlier that the total number of deaths from starvation amid the blockade of the Gaza Strip had increased to 180 people. It is specified that during the day the Ministry of Health registered five deaths from hunger in local hospitals.
