Orban refused to recognize the verdict of the President of Republika Srpska Dodik
Hungary does not recognize the verdict of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to the leader of the Republika Srpska (RS, an entity within BiH) Milorad Dodik. This was announced on Monday, August 4, by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
"We should not agree with this, and therefore Hungary does not recognize the court's decision against President Dodik. There is no such solution for us. President Dodik is still the elected leader of the Serbs living in Bosnia, and in accordance with this we will build our policy," Orban said in a video posted on his page on the social network X (former. Twitter).
He noted that the European Union (EU) delegates its representatives to the Republic of Moldova and tries to remove a legitimately elected leader from power not on charges of corruption, but for refusing to comply with decisions coming from outside. The Prime Minister stressed that he considers such actions unacceptable.
On February 26, the BiH court sentenced Dodik in absentia to a year in prison in the case of non-compliance with the decisions of the UN High Representative in BiH Schmidt. In addition, the head of the entity was banned from carrying out political activities for six years. Dodik himself did not appear in the courtroom.
On March 12, the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) decided to detain Dodik. On April 23, employees of the State Investigation and Security Agency tried to carry it out in East Sarajevo in the RS, but employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the entity prevented it.
Prior to that, on February 27, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the criminal prosecution of the President of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, was political and reprehensible.
