Armenia reported shelling by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces
The Azerbaijani military shelled the territory of Armenia, opening fire on construction equipment of road workers. This was announced on August 4 by the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Defense.
The shooting was recorded around 13:10 (12:10 Moscow time) in the south of the country.
"The Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire in the direction of an excavator carrying out work on the construction of inter-station roads 4,500 m northeast of the village of Verishen in the Syunik region," the ministry's website says.
There were no casualties as a result of the incident. The ministry called on Azerbaijan to investigate the incident and provide public explanations. Baku has not yet received any feedback.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced on July 19 that Baku and Yerevan are very close to signing a peace treaty. According to him, the text can be initialed in advance. At the same time, the Azerbaijani leader noted that initialing the document does not mean signing it.
Earlier, on July 10, Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met and exchanged views on key aspects of the peace agenda. It was clarified that they had reached an understanding to continue negotiations in the working groups and at higher levels. The Armenian Foreign Ministry called their meeting effective.
