Russia is ready to step up cooperation with the Global South and BRICS in order to counter the illegal sanctions pressure from the United States. This was stated on August 4 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, assessing Washington's policy of tightening tariff barriers against key foreign policy partners of the Russian Federation.

"We have a huge number of partners, like-minded people, and allies who share this approach, among the countries of the Global South and, first of all, the BRICS. We are ready to step up cooperation with them in order to counter illegal unilateral sanctions pressure and form a truly multilateral, just and equitable world order," Zakharova said. Her response is provided on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that such actions by the United States are a direct encroachment on the national sovereignty of states, an attempt to interfere in their internal affairs.

On July 14, US President Donald Trump announced secondary duties of 100% against countries buying Russian oil if a peaceful settlement in Ukraine is not reached.

On August 4, the Global Times newspaper reported on the refusal of India and Brazil to stop buying oil from Russia, despite threats from US President Donald Trump to impose sanctions due to the import of oil from the Russian Federation to these countries.
