The U.S. Senate will not have time to adopt sanctions against Russia until the fall.
The US Senate will not adopt a bill on sanctions against Russia until the end of the summer, its consideration has been postponed due to the beginning of the parliamentary holidays. This was reported by The Hill on August 2.
"Although the Senate hawks on the Ukrainian issue wanted their sanctions bill to be passed before the month-long recess, in the end they left the decision entirely in the hands of [US President Donald] Trump, at least for the summer," the publication notes.
Despite the fact that the initiators of the document insisted on its consideration before the break, the draft was not put to a vote. The publication cites time constraints, waiting for steps from the US presidential administration, as well as possible consequences for the global economy as reasons.
According to The Hill, the American authorities intend to keep the initiative on the agenda in order to return to it in the fall, if necessary.
On August 1, Trump said that Russia was successfully coping with sanctions, but the United States was ready to consider tightening them. This is how he answered the question of what further actions would be taken if an agreement on the Ukrainian conflict could not be reached within the 10 days he had set earlier.
In addition, on July 31, Trump announced that the United States would impose anti-Russian sanctions after a 10-day period. However, he is not sure that they will have any effect.
